Livorno and Lucca


We are docked here in Livorno, in Tuscany.



Mike and Lori braved a soggy walking tour of Lucca. Lori has the newest phone and best pictures! (Way to persevere Lori and Mike!☔️) 

This was the name of the Tour Company.  A couple behind us on the bus said, “Trumpy tours….we can’t get away from him!”😂



Medieval walled city 4.5 km around and you can walk along the top. We did not! Rainy and slippery! 


Composer Puccini is from Livorno. His house is behind the statue and is a museum now.



They say it is a town of 100 churches (we only took a picture of this one) and that they are on every corner. Not sure if we saw one on EVERY corner though.




Oval courtyard called Piazza Anfiteatro where they have many concerts in the summer and has many restaurants.



Rain made it not so much fun to walk the very narrow streets. We had wet feet/shoes/socks, coats, shirts….yuck!

Technical info from Dave Scroggie: The boat in the foreground is called The Black Pearl. (A real super yacht, not the fictional ship from Pirates of the Caribbean.) The first of the super energy efficient super yachts owned by a Russian oligarch. The said are solar panels, there is a generator to the propeller shaft.

Arrivederci Roma: Home Sweet Home

Docked in Civitavecchia (Port of Rome) overnight but didn’t see anything but scenery on the way to the airport here. People who wanted to visit Rome could extend on the back end. Luggage out by 10 pm Tuesday night, people out of the room by 8 am Wednesday. Had a little breakfast then left for the airport in Rome at 8:45. Rome to Paris;,Paris to Detroit. Both uneventful flights!👏🏻 Airport pics: Lori opted out of the travel pics😂: Best part about connecting through Paris! (Deb found her favorite chocolate, Leonidas, in the Rome airport).  We all sprang for Premium Economy air. Air France on the way home. It’s the step between regular Economy and the First Class Pods. Very civilized! Champagne after boarding! Little wider seats but a bigger recline with foot rests, a little better to try to sleep. I succeeded, the rest, not so much. Barcelona Day 1

Hola Barcelona!   Arrived at Nobu Hotel around 9 am. Got rooms! On the bus from the airport, the microphone wasn’t working so I’m pretty sure there was some good information but we didn’t hear much. We caught: -5.3 million people in the metro area -1.6 million in the city of Barcelona  - something about artichokes…. Beautiful hotel. We had a nosh and some beverages at the rooftop restaurant. Here are some examples, and the views: Fries stacked beautifully, sliders (not pictured), Squid (calamari) and dessert: almond crunch “lollipop” with Carmel…and gold leaf! Mike should have used that to fill in for the crown he lost eating the Lollipop! Marseille

Beautiful views of Marseille from the ship before our tour this morning. (Dave is enjoying his coffee on the balcony) But then we covered many of these landmarks that we could also see from the ship: At the top of the mountain is the Church of the Madonna (Good Mother). The dome and cross are being refurbished, expected to be finished in December. The Major Cathedral is named for the Virgin Mary. There are 3200 sq meters of mosaics.  860,000 people live in Marseille. The 2nd largest city in France, 2x wider than Paris, the 1st largest. Napoleon built this house but never lived in it. It is now a government building. These are called the Catalan islands. One housed a hospital for those with Yellow Fever (today it’s a museum), the other held a prison. If you had enough money you could get a bigger cell, possibly even with a fireplace!
